Why create a scrapbook?
Lets' be honest: how often do you look at those boring albums
containing the photos of your
last
vacation or your parents' anniversary party?
If you're like most of us, the answer is "not
often."
The
truth is, those plain
photo albums just aren't very interesting to look at. A scrapbook
is a stunning, colorful way to showcase your photos and tell the story of the
event behind them.
What does "archival" mean?
The acid in regular paper can eat into photos over time, causing yellowing and
fading. Archival
paper is also known as acid-free because the acid is removed at the pulp
stage, leaving the
paper with a neutral pH balance of 7.0. In addition, archival paper is also
lignin-free and has
good
color retention. Lignin is a component of plants that helps provide strength,
but its
presence in
paper can contribute to the paper's chemical breakdown over time.
Traditional photos begin to fade after a few years. Putting them into
an album can help,
but
old-fashioned "magnetic" albums use a glue that actually
eats into the photos, shortening their
life. The archival paper and inks used to
create our scrapbooks are certified to last for over
200
years. This
certification is provided by Wilhelm Imaging Research, the leading researcher
on
the
subject of printing permanence.
Do you alter my original photos?
No. We use a high-resolution scanner to scan all the photos and memorabilia you
give us. We
then return the originals to you, untouched.
How long does it take?
A single-page layout generally takes 2-3 days. An entire scrapbook takes
anywhere from 2-3
weeks to create, depending on the length. Hardback printing takes an additional
2-3 weeks.
After your
free consultation, we'll estimate
the number of pages your project will need and
the
time it will take to complete. Of course, we'll
try our best to accommodate
you if you need your
scrapbook finished as a rush order.
What if I'm not in Los Angeles?
No problem at all. Simply mail or email your photos and mementos to us, and
we'll scan them
and
send them back. When your scrapbook is ready, we'll send it to you via Fedex or
UPS.
